Stuck at Home?
With temperatures rising and neighbors out going for walks, try giving them something gorgeous to look at while increasing the value of your home. Here are some simple ways.
1. Paint!
It’s amazing how far a can of paint can go- front doors, porch columns, mailboxes- if you can paint it, give it a shot!
Stick with classic colors or give it a pop. I am loving the Tiffany-blue door in this after photo above- how pretty!
If you’re like me and are homeschooling your kids right now, get them involved too. Let them paint and decorate terra cotta pots, bird feeders, mailbox posts, or anything you think could use a tiny bit of homemade art.
2. Add Edging
Adding brick or large-stone edging to flower beds, around lamp posts and mailboxes, along driveways and near porches can make your yard look incredible. Be sure to take time to plan how you’d like for the edging to look and how much you want to do in a weekend. Our go-to handyman
Bob Vila has an excellent how-to, as always.
3. House Numbers
Toss those four-inch black numbers and make a statement. You live in East- be proud of your address!
Updating your house numbers can make a huge impact by bringing number fonts into the 2020’s. These from Joss & Main are a fantastic example of a modern classic.
This one especially is so noticeable and so simple. If you have an hour and a sunny day, go for it!
4. Garage Door Updates
Updating your garage door has never been easier and can change the overall appearance of your entire house at a fraction of the cost it would take to replace it.
With extremely simple options like using a carriage door kit, a can of gel stain, or replacing the light above your garage door, these types of makeovers have never been easier.
5. Clean it Up!
There is absolutely nothing like a good pressure wash to make your home sparkle. From siding to decks and porches, walkways and driveways, this is by far the single-most effective way to increase your curb appeal.
After our long winter months, renting or borrowing a washer can reveal the beauty of your home that you may have forgotten all about! This is such a simple way to put your home’s best face forward and is and seeing what a difference it makes is extremely satisfying. In fact, a close friend of mine was just telling me the other day that it’s become her favorite little home improvement chore!
With so much time spent online now, try finding your own ideas to spruce up your home’s exterior. I can’t wait to walk by and see!
